How to Boost Real-Time Computing Performance in 2024
Beckhoff Automation will be among the industry leaders exhibiting their solutions at the upcoming APPEX 2024 exhibition, taking place from 12 to 15 March in Melbourne. Beckhoff will be showcasing its recently launched TwinCAT 3 solution, which features the TwinCAT Core Boost – an innovation which increases the computing power of individual real-time or user mode cores by up to 50%.
Nick Psahoulias, Managing Director for Beckhoff Automation believes that the TwinCAT 3 offers customers a big leap in performance thanks to its unique design, which sees processor cores in turbo nodes. He adds that, “when supplemented by TwinCAT Core Boost, the computing performance of individual real-time or user-mode cores can be increased by up to 50% to get the maximum performance out of the system and adapt it optimally to the respective requirements.”
With TwinCAT Core Boost, the clock frequency of the processor cores can be configured individually and as required, so that they no longer need to be clocked at the same rate.
The clock rate per core can be defined for real-time transmission and user-mode applications. It is also possible to operate individual cores permanently and in real-time in a so-called turbo mode. This results in the following application benefits:
- Up to 50% more computing power for one or more processor cores.
- Possibility of using more cost-effective CPUs.
Used in conjunction with all Industrial PCs with Intel ® Core processors from 11th generation onwards, the permitted power consumption and temperature of each processor core (and of the overall system) is monitored by TwinCAT Core Boost so that reliable operation is ensured, even when turbo mode is used.
“We look forward to showcasing this new-generation technology, which is proven to boost computing performance and cost-efficiency of operations, with visitors to the show,” concludes Nick.
