New-generation air booster regulator slashes factory air consumption by 30%
SMC Corporation Australia New Zealand (ANZ) recently announced that its new-generation VBA air booster regulator will be on show at APPEX 2024. This innovative VBA series increases main line pressure by up to four times and airflow by 30%.
“We are excited to showcase this cost and energy saving solution to the local market at this year’s APPEX exhibition in March,” says Stephen Tantaro, SMC Global Account Manager. “For factories looking to increase their output without negative impact to their bottom line, the VBA booster regulator presents an ideal solution.”
Improved performance over previous designs
Stephen anticipates that the new VBA model will be well received by customers, as it has a unique 3-piston construction which reuses the exhaust air to reduce energy consumption, while ensuring any equipment downstream of the unit has the desired output pressure. “It boosts local line pressure without requiring additional power, ensuring specific components of your machine, or facility can operate at the desired pressure. Additionally these units can be mounted vertically and horizontally - giving the customer more mounting and installation flexibility.”
Designed for easy installation, the VBA requires low maintenance, with a service life of 50 million or more cycles. “This small booster unit really adds value to just about any factory,” adds Stepehen.

The VBA will be one of the six product categories that SMC plans to showcase at the upcoming APPEX exhibition (previously AUSPACK), taking place at the Melbourne Convention Centre from 12 to 15 March 2024.
“APPEX brings together the country’s leading suppliers and manufacturers of processing and packaging solutions. SMC, with its extensive range of products backed by global expertise, will be in good company at this year’s event. We encourage APPEX visitors to visit us at stand E121, where they’ll be able to see the VBA booster unit, and chat to our team,” concludes Stephen.
